Basic Function

When NRS began to work with DIAGEO, the world’s leading premier drinks company, with 29 sites across the north of Scotland, they had set a companywide target of ZERO Waste to landfill. In 3 months NRS assisted DIAGEO in raising recycling figures from less than 50% to 80%. The following month 90% recycling was achieved over all 29 sites including 3 in Islay. 9 months in to the contract we hit 99% recycling and we continue to work with DIAGEO in finding a solution to the remaining 1% in the form of energy from waste recovery. NRS handle in excess of 2000 scheduled collections a year on DIAGEO’s behalf.

The University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) is committed to addressing the challenges of climate change and to investigating ways in which they can reduce CO2 emissions. In order to fulfil this commitment, they published a carbon management plan in 2011 which, amongst other projects, included the implementation of a waste management system. Northern Recycling Solutions (NRS) assisted UHI in substituting general waste bins with recycling bins throughout the offices. By providing staff with central recycling points at key locations they were able to reduce waste to landfill by 67% and CO2 emissions by 13 tonnes per annum. UHI began recycling paper, cardboard, plastic, cans, glass, confidential waste and electrical waste with NRS in 2008. In 2011 they increased recycling services to provide a solution for paper towels and food waste. A great example of an organisation committed to best practise and resource efficiency.

Kudos was established in 1991 and has offices in Aberdeen, Glasgow and London. Kudos Aberdeen approached NRS to incorporate recycling into their working environment. 3 months in and Kudos have reduced waste to landfill by 52%. This figure will only increase with the recent introduction of a new food waste recycling service. Kudos now has the peace of mind that they have minimised environmental impact and will be compliant with the new waste legislation coming in January 2014.

What our customers think ...

"Nothing has been too difficult and the service has always been on time and done in a friendly and polite manner by all staff and any extras are dealt with without any fuss or bother. This is a service I would recommend to any business who wishes to reduce their carbon footprint by reducing landfill and doing their bit for the environment, something we should all be doing more of in this age of global change. We have to think of our children and future generations and what we are leaving behind for them."  Highland Council – Ian Burnett

"Dear Sir/Madam, just a short note to offer my very sincere thanks for the incredibly good service provided by Northern Recycling regards the delivery and pick-up of a skip to my mum's home in Bayne Drive, Dingwall. The polite and friendly driver was a fine ambassador for your firm. But the whole 'contract' was simply superb. The driver arrived with the skip at the agreed time and it was picked-up exactly when Northern Recycling staff said it would be. The lassies I spoke to on the 'phone were knowledgeable and good fun to deal with! The service was very reasonably priced and I'll have no hesitation recommending Northern Recycling to other folk. A very sincere thanks to all those involved in helping me out. It's very much appreciated. "  Best Regards, – Morris
